About the founder of Xerostress.org: Satpal Singh

Life is full of challenges. The situation of the stress itself forges us to a fresh renewal to lead a meaningful life. Such is the life of Satpal Singh who faced stress without even knowing about it. Stress affected him to a stage where he spent sleepless nights going through the emotional trauma that greatly affected his mental and physical health. As a result, he made some hasty decisions in life.

Singh didn’t arrive at a critical situation overnight, but instead, it gradually crept up on him due to chronic stress. For the past thirty years, he had displayed full confidence in making decisions for himself and others but the stress majorly compromised his self-esteem, leaving him feeling incompetent and unreliable to make any sort of choices, for him or anyone else.

The stress leading to depression peaked from 2007 to 2010 when Singh began having suicidal thoughts. He could not respect and love his own life and everything seemed meaningless to him. His social life and relationship with his children became strained. He attempted to tell others about his deteriorating mental state and stressful condition but no one thought much of it due to his rock and roll lifestyle. While internally he was suffering, on the outside, he still put up a facade of being an outgoing and genial human being.

Things began to change when one of Singh’s sisters, who worked in the medical field, took notice of his depressive behavior. She asked him a few questions and started keeping a close eye. She noticed his suicidal tendency. She took him to a doctor for an evaluation and the results were what she had feared, Singh was in a state of deep stress.

Even at the end of the darkest tunnel, there is light. Singh’s doctor prescribed him medicine and began meeting him every other day. The doctor’s prescription included a four dimension formula of meditation, medication, work, and physical exercise. Although Singh felt progress within the first week, this feeling of success and redemption did not last. Any time he did not fulfill one of the four dimensions, his mind went back to square one. He would give up and return to his bedroom to isolate himself.

A major turning point for Singh was that the doctor’s recommendation told him to visit the Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh Religion Temple) before and after work daily. He received great spiritual guidance from one of the Sikh priests there. After about 8 to 12 months of fighting and strict enforcement of the 4 dimension formula, he embraced life once again and learned stress management.

Despite emerging from the lowest point of his life as a redefined human being, Singh was still traumatized by what had happened.“Why me, why did I get chosen to endure this almost life-ending experience? I’ve been confident and successful in making strong, educated decisions since I was twelve years old and living in the rural Punjab state of India. Decisions that also led to thirteen years of a successful life after immigrating to the USA as well.”

It finally occurred to him that there had to be an alternative reason that God had him undergo this roller coaster and survive it. He has lived through a long, stressful life but his purpose was to take his experience and turn it into something positive to serve others with. In 2012, Singh came up with the idea of a Xero Stress lifestyle. With refreshing energy and a positive mindset,he now spreads joy and happiness to others. A gratitude-filled life is the grand gift of nature to all of us.

To repay his debt of gratitude, Singh is now ready to help by reaching out to the people suffering from a similar situation. He wants to encourage from the experience he had faced during the stressful stage.

He started 501(c)(3) Xerostress Inc in 2015 to aid individuals that are living in stress. Due to the techy lifestyle that we live in today’s world, we can’t avoid stress. We need to learn to live with it and value our own life.
Satpal Singh has truly devoted his life to work for this cause by spreading hope and joy to people’s lives!
